Storytelling in a humane and accessible way
Shortly before COVID hit, I've been given the opportunity to step into a Senior Product Designer role at Prezi, helping over 100 million active users to connect and communicate more meaningfully with their audiences. I primarily concentrated on developing a cross-product asset library, the zooming presentation editor and Prezi Video.
During my time at Prezi, experiences in the following areas collectively shaped my view on both virtual and in-person meetings, and changed how I practice storytelling, therefore made me a better designer.
After all, my key learning at Prezi was to observe, practice and design around the invaluable skill of storytelling.
Using interactive presentation tools to encourage engagement and employing techniques that set the mood for creativity, my experience showed me the power of visual storytelling and collaborative platforms in improving team interactions.
Critical environment fosters attention to details.
Through numerous design critique sessions and feedback meetings, I developed a sharper skill set in articulating the rationale behind my designs. This experience significantly enhanced my capacity to defend and evolve my designs effectively in a dynamic and feedback-driven setting.
Supporting 2 cross-functional teams simultaneously.
Helping out one team with the Library initiative while working on Prezi Video related tasks forced me to refine my communication, time management and multitasking abilities.
Designing multiple products as part of a collaboration toolkit.
Prezi relies on 3 different products, a zooming presentation tool, an infographics editor and a video meeting tool. Learning how to create consistency and smooth user experiences across these diverse tools has been incredibly valuable in my design journey.
The tiny yet crucial nuances of meetings.
Techniques and tools that profoundly influence meetings, shaping mood, engagement and therefore team dynamics are invaluable. Learned how an ice-breaker or cleverly timed exercise can influence the contributions and outcomes in a meeting.
Several of my designs at Prezi enhanced navigation, accessibility and improved metrics such as bounce rate, average session duration and time spent. I see my main mark to have been backing up my commitment to fearless experimentation with timely delivery. The following projects generated substantial value for our users, the company and my professional growth.
Collaborated on the conception of Prezi Video's native application working seamlessly with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Slack and more.
As part of this exercise, we designed the home to a user's videos and multiple work flows where a user could start a project, choose and customize templates, record videos and go live with a conferencing tool of their choice.
Making the world's largest library of reusable assets accessible across 3 products.
Partnered with cross-functional teams of product managers, engineers, data analysts, user researchers, copywriters and more to evolve the world's largest library of reusable assets across three products. In the specific examples below, I show some of the sidebars from the presentation editor, where previously saved library assets could be used.
Educators and students increasingly needed to reuse parts of existing presentations, so collections were created to fulfill this need.
From a view page of a presentation, users could have a good overview of each chapter or slide. After selecting the ones they like, they could save these to their library as part of a collection and even use them to create a Prezi Video. My designs helped people on this journey.
After the challenging times of COVID, we moved into a fully remote work schedule at Prezi. As I spent nearly all of my time at my desk, I decided to pursue a career in freelancing.
